Abstract

The article commemorates the bicentennial of Mexican federalism, emphasizing the importance of understanding the 1824 Constitution and its historical context; highlighting the drafting process of the Constitutive Act of the Mexican Federation and the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States of 1824. Historical antecedents influenced by the French Revolution and the independence of the United States are mentioned, and the debate between federalists and centralists during the constitution drafting is underscored, with figures like Servando Teresa de Mier advocating for moderate federalism. The main aspects of the 1824 Constitution are emphasized, such as the federal form of government, the division of powers, and citizens' rights. Finally, there is reflection on the current challenges of federalism, proposing a rethink to address issues such as fiscal regime, education, health, security, human rights, and the administration of justice in the 21st century.
