Abstract

To analyze and understand the conception and characteristics of citizenship in the first Federal Republic, rather than focusing on the Federal Constitution of 1824, we must refer to the state constitutions promulgated between 1824 and 1827, given that the local constituent legislatures were in charge of characterizing to the citizen and were left with the absolute freedom to design their constitutions and laws based only on the principle of not contravening the bases of the federation, that is, the Constitutive Act and the Constitution of 1824. In this text it is noted that the conception, definition and the attributions of citizenship are not homogeneous throughout the constitutional texts of the various states that made up the federation, which is why it is necessary to look at the local constitutions. Under that premise, the purpose of this work is to analyze the characteristics of citizenship in Michoacán based on what was established in the State Constitution of 1825 and the questioning of them through the proposal to reform said text starting in 1830.
