ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL FORMATION OF THE MEXICAN LAWYER IN THE 21st CENTURY

This article analyzes the formation of the Law graduate in Mexico as a response to the singularities of the current legal field, in which are included the evolution of the justice system, globalization, and labor environment. From a comparative study of the updated study programs, the profile of graduating students, the model and educational focus of the Law programs in four Mexican universities (two public, two private), an evaluation is carried out on how they affect in the professional development of the barrister, in respect of the relevance of knowledge, skills, and abilities that the students acquire in the university context and their congruence with the current social needs that a Law professional must meet. Finally, it is sought to establish which must be the essential characteristics of the profile of graduation of Law professionals so that the barrister can compete in the labor market of the XXI Century.
