The gender perspective as a methodology promoted by the United Nations has served to inspire the creation of tools that generated greater political equality for women in Mexico. Among them, affirmative actions such as “gender quotas” have contributed to achieve a greater presence of women in the Legislative Power and, with this, generated a virtuous circle to build a new le- gal structure that has had a positive impact on achieving the objectives signed in the international agreements and treaties signed by the Mexican State, to eradicate discrimination and violence against women. However, the advances in the legal field are not enough, since experience makes it evident that it is not sufficient to recognize the rights of women in the laws. It is also necessary to implement actions with a gender perspective from other spheres of public power. This article aims, therefore, to account for the progress and challenges in the adoption of the gender perspective as a tool to face the challenges of the fight against the inequality that exists in the country.
